The Wyoming Tour — September 2004 Looking East towards the Bighorn Mountains near Shell Canyon
(The setting of Jim Spencer's novel, Holy Murder: Polygamy's Blood)

I spent a week teaching in five churches in the Big Horn Basin (Yes, Bighorn Mountains and Bighorn River, but Big Horn County and Big Horn Basin—go figure.)

The purpose of the tour was to highlight, in the very location in which the novel was set, the subject matter of the book—the history, and ongoing horrors of polygamy. As you may know, there are 50,000 polygamists in the West. The essence of this practice is to produce little girls to be the wives of old men. It is a shame, it is a scandal, and the modern Mormon Church is to blame.

It would take a small book to tell of all the wonderful people and experiences that attended the tour. Perhaps I will get that writing job done one day. For now, however, I want to share some of the pictures I took during that eventful week.
